It’s my 10 year anniversary on Tumblr 🥳
holy shit um. ten years huh?
okay so. this is a kinda, weird post to make. because good god have i been extremely tangled up in tumblr as like, a core part of my identity for basically all of these ten years. which hm in retrospect is perhaps not the healthiest relationship to have with a social media website owned by venture capitalists! funny that
but um. to avoid going into an excruciating amount of detail about my personal life. it turns out that having a giant social media presence with a decade of history that i feel way too attached to to ever actually trim down on? is a very hard thing to obsessively keep up with when you are no longer a teenager with a lot of free time but instead are an adult with a full-time job who still spends like two hours a day meticulously reading through every single post that all of the hundreds of people she follows make every single day
and for a good while i was just inclined to suffer through it because it’s a good way to keep up with my friends! i don’t wanna leave any of the actual people behind! and then as a lot of those people started migrating to other sites, and as most of the people i especially cared about connected with me other places, and as i went through a whole lot of therapy, it started to click with me that. yeah this is in fact not a healthy relationship to have with a website! and when cohost came around and basically turned into ‘tumblr but it’s run better and it’s less frustrating to use’ it, became kinda hard to justify having a tumblr at all really. and then because i simply need to wait until momentous occasions for this sort of thing i just planned to stop using my blog cold-turkey once it turned ten. which is, uh, today.
so. i am not deleting this blog nor am i vanishing from the internet wholesale. if you would like to keep up with me past this point, your best spots are gonna be either cohost, or i’m @irlpinkiepie on discord too; i’m also not gonna rule out the possibility that i might end up trimming down my follows and coming back to tumblr at some point down the line! but as it stands i desperately need a break from the way i use this website and this seems like, the most straightforward way to do just that
